Meetings

As a general rule, prioritize dynamic direct collaboration over scheduled meetings. 5 to 30 minutes discussing over Discord is generally faster and is often enough to debottleneck the process. If you need more than 30 minutes you should book a meeting via Google Calendar.

What is a meeting?

A meeting has a clear defined agenda, with specific bullet points and an expected outcome. For example: brainstorming, co-working, reviewing documents, and discussing in order to reach a decision.

If you schedule a meeting, please inform everyone of the agenda, desired outcome, and how to be prepared. If no preparation is needed, maybe try direct/dynamic collaboration on Discord.

As a matter of basic professional courtesy, if you are scheduled for a meeting, please show up so we can all achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Work hours

Results matters more than the hours we work.

Going the extra mile is often useful, but not every case is the same. This project is a marathon; sprints will be needed, but we should pace ourselves. Work hours can be addressed with leadership if needed. Example: if life-demands come up and it makes sense to switch from full-time to part-time work for a period of time.

The team is distributed and remote so be mindful when setting deadlines for others (even if your squad is in a sprint); try to use foresight to factor in the different time zones that people are living/working in.

Work hard, rest well.

Work is an important and significant part of life, so work should be satisfying and enjoyable. Whether you work 40-50 hours per week, less, or more, it's important to stay healthy and also prioritize mental health.

Social media guidelines

Our social media goal is to build community. The main objective is to show who our team is, what we are doing, what we are learning, our experiences, insights, as well as our expertise as we answer questions.

When communicating, we should use a tone that embodies these qualities:

Tips.

What not to do?

  1. Do not publish confidential information such as images, lines of code, or documents that have not been authorized for public use.
  2. Do not publish personal information, including contact information (phone numbers, emails, address or location), of any member of the Reserve team.
  3. Do not disseminate any multimedia content (photographs, videos, or images) showing the faces of employees through social networks.
  4. Do not make any political or religious comments or references.
  5. Do not make offensive comments about people, their ideas, identity, dignity, property, etc..
  6. Do no publish sexual material of any kind.
  7. Do not attack or disparage other tools and platforms that offer services similar to Reserve (all those that help against hyperinflation are Rangers!), always praise them and refer people to them.

Communication in a virtual office

In order to replicate the fast pace and teamwork of a traditional office you need to:

Performance evaluation

For full-time contracts, you'll have your first evaluation three months after joining Reserve. At the end of this trial period, your guild leader will provide feedback in a one-on-one meeting and you will settle on a long-term contract. Twice a year, once in May and once in November, each team member who has been working with us for at least 6 months will have a performance evaluation; in that meeting we will also discuss any appropriate changes to compensation.
